strykeMemberMy Uechi is fairly bare bones
I do Sanchin and Seisan
I utlilise the guard and postures and teach my own version of push hands and chi sao type drills from Sanchin .
I utilise the Sanchin guard as a bridging guard and teach basic boxing/kickboxing stuff from the Sanchin basics and mechanics .
I regard this all as Sanchin but it`s the easiest way to explain my approach .
focus on developing and using the Uechi weapons and strategy I see in the kata .
A big focus on close quarters , grappling force disruption balance displacement . Lots of in your face niggle .
locks , seizing and impacting , pressure points and anatomical weakness , balance disruption and throwing , chokes etc are all played with .

I think it`s an awesome oppurtinity Daves providing for his students , and the fact it`s ongoing and not just a one of thing means folks get a chance to really abosrb practice and evolve .
Rick your an inspiration mate , keep up the good work !!! :karate:

strykeMemberTough subject , and I agree if you can hit em and know how , then do it (but know how and what you can get away with )
[quote:rr4429f8]And, at the same time, these folk would like the âstrikerâ to grapple, why? [/quote:rr4429f8]
I think at some point you just need to grapple . Strike and grapple but grapple . The generalist will beat the specialist IMHO
A good grappler is going to get so high in the mount so fast that we may be talking about someone who just happens on mount rather than striking a grappler . Keeping them down on your hips is akin to saying grapple him .
I basically think if you havent got ground game your going to probably loose against someone that does , but isnt that obvious ?
I like the article Rick in terms of dealing with basic ground and pound , it`s a usefull skill , and above all it`s better to have some gameplan for all contingencies .
I`m only coming from a limited skillset on the ground , but I see oppurtunitys a plenty from all the pictures , but thats akin to a striker seeing targets on a body .
the beauty with groundfighting is a little knowledge does go a long way defensively , just do it it`s fun , and your standup will benifit .

strykeMemberThis is an impossible question .
I look at everything I can
I too like the chinese arts for there mechanics , but that is probably mostly your influence Rick . But I have yet to find better mechanics .
I look at BJJ , there positional theory has changed me entire aproach both standup and the ground .
I look at Mauy thai for striking and conditioning
I look at FMA and Modern arnis for lines of attack and force , and for footwork .
I look at Judo for throws , Qinna etc
I get a huge amount from Koryu Uchinadi , mostly in the HAPV theory and Tegumi drills
Ive stolen a little from systema though I know little of it ….
deffinately western boxing , copied aspects of Five ancestor fist , Southern Mantis , even Wing Chun 😮
but it`s all just studying karate to me .
it`s got to be at the end of the day just a study of human movement yes ?

strykeMemberPancrase was around beofre the UFC for a little while I`m pretty sure .
the japanese had a head start but NHB like ufc no quite .
but they were doing similar stuff long before UFC , it evolved out of the japanese style wrestling .
Vale Tudo and japanese wrestling/shooto I think both predate the UFC
