Hey Ben, what do you mean you disagree? I’ve chosen not to do em or teach em. It’s not up for a vote.😉
Lots of folks do them, thats fine with me. But we don’t.
There are lots of other methods of learning the basics.:o Just because we don’t do Hojo Undo doesn’t mean we don’t have a good grasp of the basics.
I always had problems with some of the hojo undo stuff. Like the carp tail strikes. Why have a white belt drill them. It’s from the kata they will perform on their sandan test.
Now nothing wrong with training them so it makes the kata easier to learn, but does the student really need to practice them for a decade in order to make learning the kata easier?
It might be benificial to have the student train drills that reinforce the principles from kata that they are presently working on. Lots of oppourtunity to refine the basics while drilling.
Hey tens of thousands have learned Uechi while doing hojo undo, So I expect it works.<img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/" alt="” title=”Big Grin” /> Maybe I’ve got a short attention span, but I sure don’t want to be doing the same drills 20 years from now or six months from now.:alien: Drills in Banff kind of evolve with the needs of the student.
lairdParticipantYou don’t like kanshiwa because you thought I would try to sell you a cup:o
lairdParticipantNo yakasuko kumites in Banff
no hojo undo , jubi undo exercises.
No push up’s etc.I don’t run an exercise class I train martial arts.
I do six of the Uechi kata.
I round things out with BJJ and Boxing.
I don’t train obsolete weapons, I train firearms and blades.I consider myself a TMA.
